Students of the University of Stuttgart have set a new Guinness World Record for the fastest acceleration from astandstill to 100 km/h in just 1.779 seconds. The GreenTeam Formula Student participants have achieved this result with an electric vehicle and bettered theprevious recordby 0.006 seconds which was in possession of ETH Zürich.

The 100kW all-wheel drive vehicle designed to race in the Formula Student competitions,is powered by four motors and a 6.62kWh battery package. With a vehicle’s weight of 160 kg, the power to weight ratio is 1,6 kg/kW. That is a stunning performance in comparison with other vehicles like Formula 1 (1,0 kg/kW), Bugatti Veyron Supersport (2,08 kg/kW) and a Porsche 918 Spyder (2,50 kg/kW).

Runs in both directions were needed to qualify for a new record. After several attempts, Priska Schmid set a new best time on behalf of GreenTeam Uni Stuttgart e.V. at the JadeWeserAirport located in the Northwestern part of Germany. The record will be confirmed by Guinness World Records in the next couple of weeks.
